Precision Machined Nozzles for Nordson, Slautterback, Melton, Pearson & ITW Melters

Are you continually having issues with nozzles firing at an awkward angle?  Maybe you bought a "cheap" nozzle trying to save money.  Not all aftermarket glue parts manufacturers are equal.

Keystone Industries, the largest US aftermarket hot melt parts manufacturer, machines precision stainless steel inserts for the glue nozzle bodies.  This guarantees a consistently straight orifice which will ensure you have a straight glue shot on your substrate.

Keystone also machines a variety of engagements of inserts for your particular needs. Different lengths of engagements will provide different velocity of adhesive extrusion.
Not sure which you need?  Call us and we can help.

Cheapest does not always save you money.  We have very competitive prices and are much less than the OEM's.  We manufacture parts either exactly like the OEM's or so close you will have a challenge seeing the difference in performance.

Mesh Sizes for Inline Filter for Nordson style applicators

What mesh size works best with your nozzles?  Doesn't sound that important, but it is.  You could be experiencing frequent nozzle clogs due to the incorrect inline filter mesh size.

Recommended mesh sizes versus nozzles sizes:

200 Mesh (tightest and most restrictive)
Use with nozzle sizes:

100 Mesh
Use with nozzle sizes:

50 Mesh (least restrictive)
Use with nozzle sizes:

24 Mesh (very open - works well with butyl adhesives)

.040 and above

Let us know if you need help.

Inline Filters and Assemblies for Nordson glue melters

Are you having issues with nozzles clogging?

The solution may be as simple as changing your inline filter between the glue hose and applicator head.

Many production/packaging facilities add this simple maintenance item to their preventive maintenance schedule.

The frequency of changing your filters will be determined by the type of adhesive used, if your tank sits for long periods at the set temperature, how many outside contaminants you have in the air, if your glue is kept covered before use, if your tank is kept full and many other factors.

There are 2 different types of inline filters used on the Nordson®  applicators:

  • The old style true inline filter and assembly:
    • advantage to this style is that the glue is forced through the filter and cannot bypass any portion of the filter.
    • disadvantage is that you have to take the complete assembly apart to change the filter.

  • The quick change inline filter and assembly:
    • advantage is the filter cartridge can be easily changed without taking the complete fitting apart and is safer.
    • disadvantage is that small contaminants may bypass the filter cartridge because it is not inline with the fitting.

Either way, you win by making sure the filters are changed on a regular basis.  If you are unsure about when you should change your filters, please give us a call and we can help you make that decision.

Why Change Nordson Glue hose?

Changing Glue Hoses

Does your glue hose still heat properly?  Then, you don't need to change it, right?!?

Not necessarily true.
Is safety an important factor in your production facility?

Check your adhesive hoses on your Nordson, Slautterback, HMT, Melton, Robatech, Meltex, and/or ITW/LTI glue melters for fraying on the body of the hose and verify the hose cuffs are still covering the hose on each end.  Check your wires at the connectors to verify they are covered properly.

If hoses are on the floor, you may need shorter hoses.  Hoses can cause a tripping hazard by lying on the floor.  Hoses can be crushed by heavy equipment when on the floor.  Also, if the floors are wet and you have non-washdown style hoses, you may have an electrical hazard present.

Do you seem to be plugging nozzles frequently?  Maybe your hose is old and full of char and contaminants that are breaking off gradually and plugging your nozzles.

Call us if you need help in determining lengths and types of hoses.  We are the experts and can steer you in the right direction.

Hose Maintenance for Nordson, Slautterback, HMT, ITW, Melton, Robatech, and Meltex Hoses

Recommended Hose Maintenance

1.      Wear safety gloves and goggles. Wipe off any hot melt material on the hose fittings and/or the hose braid. Built up material can cause kinking when the hose is moved from one position to another.
2.      Clean any dust and debris from the hose cover. Accumulated dust can create hot spots in a hose and become a fire hazard.

Flush the entire glue melter unit, including the hoses. Flushing removes excess dirt and charred material.  If changing adhesive types, flush before using new adhesives in case the two adhesives are not compatible.
            Inspecting Hose Hydraulic Connections

1.      Heat the system to operating temperature.
2.      Relieve system pressure by performing all the following actions:

Melter with piston pump:

·        Reduce pump air pressure to zero and disconnect the supply (incoming) air line.
·        Place the air pump ON/OFF switch in the OFF position.

Melter with gear pump:
·        Turn the motor speed dial to 0%.
·        Place the motor ON/OFF (or START/STOP) switch in the OFF (or STOP) position.

3.      Trigger all guns to relieve any trapped hydraulic pressure.
4.      Disconnect the solenoids and/or photoeyes to prevent accidental triggering of the guns.
5.      Reduce air pressure to the guns:
Melter with automatic guns:

·        Reduce gun air pressure to zero at the regulator.

Melter with handguns:

·        Place the gun trigger safely in the locked position. Hang the handgun by the hole in its handle.

6.      Disconnect and lock out power to the main circuit breaker for the applicator input power line.
7.      Verify fittings are tight at tank and gun ends of hose.
8.      Tighten any loose connections using two wrenches by placing one wrench on the applicator manifold or gun fitting and the other wrench on the hose fitting.

Note: Always use two wrenches to tighten any hose fittings.
Inspecting Hose Electrical Connections

1.      Disconnect and lock out power to the main circuit breaker for the applicator input power line.
2.      Check that all hose electrical plug pins are in good condition, not bent or loose.  Replace damaged/loose pins.
3.      Verify all hose electrical plug connections are tight. Tighten any loose plugs.

Glue Hose Routing - Simple Tips for Extended Life

Simple tips to Extend the life of glue hoses

  • Use the proper fittings (90°/Straight/45°) to maximize support and minimize hose bending.
  • Do not exceed the bend radius = Minimum bend radius for 5/8" id hose is 11 inches and Minimum bend radius for 5/16" id hose is 8 inches.
  • Reduce binding by using hook and loop straps for securing instead of cable ties.
  • Suspend hoses and manual dispensing glue guns away from the floor to prevent tripping, crushing and chaffing.
  • Use braided style hoses in applications where handgun hoses may drag across edges.
  • Use high flex hoses where robotics are used.
  • Verify the hose length is appropriate for the area to prevent stretching and extra strain on the fittings and areas surrounding the fittings.
We manufacture a variety of adhesive hoses for all types of applications and for OEM melters, such as Nordson, Slautterback, Melton, ITW, Robatech, HMT and Meltex.
We also make the hoses made obsolete by Nordson.

Standard Thermostat
High Flex
Bulk Melter
Foam Melter
Trine Style
Handgun Style

We carry the fittings and the inline filter assemblies that are on the ends of the hoses.  Please let me know if you need help with ordering.
